Seminario | (Post)development geographies: critical perspectives on futebol and turismo

Museo di Geografia - Via del Santo, 26. Padova

14.04.2023

Il 14 aprile 2023, ore 18.30 - 19.30 presso il Museo di Geografia, Via del Santo, 26, nell'ambito dell'International Night of Geography 2023 si svolgerà il seminario "(Post)development geographies: critical perspectives on futebol and turismo"

Speakers: Rafael Balieiro Crestani and Ana Gabriela da Cruz Fontoura (Master in Local Development, Unipd)

Discussants: Mariasole Pepa (Unieversity of Padua) and Amandine Chapuis (Université Paris-Est Créteil)

Starting from the lesson learnt from Brazilian geographer Milton Santos, the idea of território will be explored and will be grounded in two different experiences in the context of contemporary Brazil. The first will discuss soccer and globalisation, while a second will present the role of community-based tourism.
The goal is to show that understanding soccer and tourism ‘geographically’ reveals much more complicated development dynamics than what is generically presented in common discourse.
The event is supported by the learning community of the Master in Local Development, including students and professors, and is open to anyone interested in the way geography matters to alternatives to mainstream conceptualization of development.

The event will be held in English with a Latin American accent!
