Conference | Patristic Heritage in Eastern Christianity
Sala Bortolami, Palazzo Jonoch Gulinelli - Via del Vescovado, 30, Padova
27.10.2025
October 27th, 2025
The ‘Church Fathers’ represent a set of shared foundational authorities for the different Eastern Christian communities of Late Antiquity. However, the history of their assimilation within such communities over the centuries represents a widely unexplored area of research. The conference focuses on this complex process and its strategies, including translations, commentaries, reuse, and adaptations of the Church Fathers to new historical contexts and cultural agendas.
The conference will bring together scholars working on different subjects and linguistic areas, who will present a number of significant case studies. The overall approach, grounded in historical methodologies such as manuscript studies and textual criticism, is meant to shed light on the Eastern Christian communities as active protagonists in their own vibrant and diverse intellectual histories.
