Maria Cristina La Rocca elected to the Accademica dei Lincei

Maria Cristina La Rocca, Full Professor of Medieval History in our Department, has been appointed Corresponding Member of the Accademia dei Lincei.
 
After earning her degree and PhD at the University of Turin, she began her academic career at the University of Padua in 1990, where she became Associate Professor in 1998 and Full Professor in 2005. She has coordinated the PhD programme in Historical Studies at the University of Padua and, since 2010, has promoted the joint PhD in History, Geography, and Anthropology offered by the three Universities of Veneto.
 
Her research focuses on the history of cities, the transformation of funerary rituals, and gender representations between the 6th and the 8th century, based on textual and archaeological sources. Relying on a solid network of international collaborations, she took part in and organised research projects, fostering exchanges with scholars worldwide. Among other projects, she has contributed to Transformation of the Roman World (European Science Foundation), Cassiodorus (Istituto Italiano di Storia Antica), and Uma História Conectada da Idade Média. Comunicação e Circulação a partir do Mediterrâneo (Projeto Temático FAPESP, Universidade de São Paulo, Brazil).
