Term dates, calendars and timetables

Within the framework of the overall academic calendar drawn up at university level to decide the date teaching will begin and certain specific deadlines applicable to all study courses, the department approves a calendar of teaching activities every year which distinguish lesson periods from exam sessions.

Calendar of teaching activities

The dates shown on this page relate to the 2016/17 academic year which begins on the 1st of October 2016 and finishes on the 30th of September 2017.

Days in which lessons are suspended (subject to legal modifications)

Christmas holidays: from 23st December 2016 to 5th January 2017 
Easter holidays: from 14th April 2017 to 17th April 2017
Giustinianea Feast Day: 2nd May 2017
Summer holidays: from 31th July 2017 to 18th August 2017
The patron saint's day for teaching activities 13 June 2017

The first semester starts on the 27th of September 2016 and finishes on 20th January 2017.
The second semester starts on the 27  of February 2017 and finishes on 9th June 2017.

Exam sessions

Winter session: 23th January - 24th February 2017
Summer sessions: 12nd June - 21st July 2017
Autumn session: 21st August - 22nd September 2016

Extraordinary exam re-take for students who have failed their exams (Course DM 509/99 and 270/04)

15th - 19th May 2017.
6th - 10th November 2017.

Students who have not passed their exams can request teaching staff to fix a re-take date for the subject concerned. Teaching staff fix a date in accordance with normal teaching activities. The same dates also apply to students from the old four year university system.
Formal requirements for the registration/official minutes certifying results for study courses pursuant to Ministerial Decrees 509/99 and 270/04 can start prior to the beginning of the two official exam sessions on completion of 12 weeks of front-of-class lessons.
